Do Pheromone Perfumes Work?

Androstadienone is frequently described as a putative human pheromone. A 2024 review of physiological, cognitive and neuroimaging research concluded that its classification as a human sex pheromone remains inconclusive and that better standardized research is needed.

Why experiences can still feel convincing

Fragrance can affect how a person feels about themselves and how others perceive them. Context, expectation, conventional scent, grooming, confidence and ordinary social cues can all shape an experience. That makes personal anecdotes interesting but unable to isolate a pheromone effect.
